I posted last week about music that I like being featured in advertisements. In that post I suggested that I would make it regular thing. This post is a product of that suggestion.
I got some feedback from a friend on some music to feature here. One of them was Architecture in Helsinki. While I really love them, the song in the commercial wasn’t their best and the commercial really annoyed me (see for yourself). I kept it this week to music I really like and commercials that don’t make me not want to write these posts.
The Postal Service – Such Great Heights (UPS)
Today’s list starts with UPS’s pretty cheesy commercial featuring The Postal Service. Their music definitely falls into the realm of background music, so this song is pretty fitting.
What really made this ad interesting is the mock commercials that I found in the related items on YouTube. My favorite even includes references to 2 Girls 1 Cup!
Yael Naim – New Soul (Macbook Air)
Oh look! Another Mac commercial. Apple has a whole whack of ads featuring good music. Most of them are usually pretty good. Just feel lucky there are no car commercials this week.
This one features Yael Naim. I really, really like this song. I got the album with high hopes and was sadly disappointed. In my opinion she is just a one hit wonder but with with the popularity spike after this commercial aired she has had a pretty sweet 15 minutes.
The Concretes – Say Something New (Target)
Last this week is a Target commercial from The Concretes. It’s not my favourite commercial but I really like The Concretes. I didn’t really expect them to be chosen to set the mood of an uplifting Target commercial but Say Something New ended up suiting this commercial just fine.

We were listening to WOXY last night and a Hum song came on – my husband was appalled that I only recognized it from a recent Cadillac commercial
It’s better to know a 5 second clip of the riff than nothing I guess
. It’s interesting how many good bands you can find just wading through commercials! Oh and don’t tell your husband but I think I am in the same boat
