The Hot Toddies — A nerd’s wet dream.

Today as I was pumping through my daily Indie Playlist grind, I came across a band called The Hot Toddies. They have a 60’s inspired, harmonious, doo-wop sound with direct, sexual, and really playful lyrics. Their tastefully titled album Smell the Mitten is, at least on the first listen, pretty hit or miss (don’t miss the secret track Suck My Balls). All the songs on their MySpace, which is about half the album, are really good and frankly that is enough for me. All that being said, after listening to a cool Podcast episode interviewing them I noticed that this is their first album. Some of the band members even learned their respected instruments to during the process of creating it.

One song in particular caught my attention and is the real reason I am writing this post. That of course is the track HTML. It brought me back to a personally nostalgic comic from a Penny Arcade post back in 2002. The song was been quoted on their MySpace as “neo-retro code-romantic”. Throughout it, these girly girls spit out tech acronyms and internet memes interwoven with sexual references. This is a musical cocktail that fits of palate of nerds and geeks alike.
